Where to goOnly a few minutes from the seaIn Cornwall you're never too far from the sea, and at Hilton Woods Park you're just a few minutes away. Widemouth Bay, a glorious golden dip in the cliffs, is nearest. It's as famous for its surf as it is for its beauty. Other beaches, like Crooklets Beach at Bude, are wide and well groomed, while others, like Duckpool, are wild and mysterious. Take your time and dicover them all. The South West Coast Path will take you to even quieter places with stunning views along the way: Tintangel, Sandymouth, and Dizzard Point. Inland there's beauty too, high on Bodmin Moor or among the windswept tors of Dartmoor. Launceston Castle today has an interactive display tracing the thousand years of history of the site. There is also an exhibition of finds from various site excavations. The castle is open daily from the beginning of April until the end of October each year. Bude Castle, a castellated mansion overlooking Summerleaze Beach, was built by the inventor Sir Goldsworthy Gurney in 1830. He was the first man to make a lengthy journey in a mechanical vehicle when he drove a steam carriage from London to Bath and back. The building now houses the Town Council and the attractive grounds are used for concerts and fêtes throughout the summer. Tintagel Castle is currently in ruins and can be found on Tintagel Head, located near Tintagel in North Cornwall. The site was originally a Roman settlement, though the remains of the castle that stand today date from the 13th century. The castle is traditionally linked to the legend of King Arthur and as such it is currently a popular tourist site run by English Heritage.
