How to Live a Simple Life - Think About Downsizing to a Lodge

25th April 2016

Downsizing your home could be one of the hardest things you’ve thought about doing, if you’ve lived in your current home for many years, how do you decide what goes and what stays? A lifetime of memories cannot simply be thrown away. There are some simple tricks you can use to downsize, such as clearing out the clutter and checking out our park homes for sale.

We often hoard things that we do not need, and it is only when we don’t have it anymore that we realise we can live without a lot of things. Whilst moving maybe stressful, looking for residential lodges for sale is the fun part.

How to Live a Simple Life

Downsizing you home means that you are living a simpler life and less space means less upkeep. We all know that as we age, some tasks can be become very difficult, if not impossible. Our bodies aren’t what they used to be so living in a space that works for you, without having to live in an elderly home, would be more advantageous. Our lodges do not have stairs to climb and the open plan living and kitchen areas make them easy to move around in. The top of the range kitchen equipment make whipping up your meals easy and enjoyable.

Less space also means less cleaning, none of those knick knacks to dust and move out of the way to hoover. The main thing you will notice from downsizing is the extra money you have, spare money to spend doing the things you love and enjoying your retirement, not worrying about hefty paying bills. But, overall and more importantly, you will have more free time, free time to do with exactly as you please.

At Dream Lodge, you can enjoy the benefit of a luxury lodge with the highest quality technology and kitchen equipment. It may not be as big as your old home, but it has everything you will need to have a happy life in the country. We’re certain you won’t miss your all of your old house stuff but there’s enough room for your most treasured possessions to come with you.

Your new home is fully furnished so you don’t need to bring anything with you, unless you want to of course. Decorating your new home is the fun part, making it your own and adding those all-important home comforts is what makes a house a home.

Downsizing to a smaller property means you have less space to clean, which as you get older can become more difficult and who wants to spend all their time cleaning anyway?

Clear Out the Clutter or Donate to a Charity

Whilst you go through your belongings, really think about when the last time you used it was, if the honest answer is that it has been sitting in your wardrobe unused for years, send it to charity. It can be easy to hold onto old clothes in different sizes just in case, but if you haven’t worn them in a long time; the likelihood is that you aren’t going to. Are there some clothes in your wardrobe from the 80s that you love, but you know you will never wear them? Put them in the charity bag. Charity shops will take most items these days, so old DVDs and CDs are another great selection to donate much needed funds for charities. Even down to the little things like jewellery, sewing goods, old plates and cups and all the other kitchen things you have in the back of those cupboards.

How often have you read a book more than once? Yes books look nice when they are all lined up on shelves, but in reality they are not necessary and are just collecting dust. Keep your favourites and donate the rest.

Ornaments are often things that you don’t think about, but there are sure to be items in your home that were bought as gifts that weren’t to your taste, use this opportunity to clear them out.

Make Money from Unwanted Items

If like a lot of people you have clothes, shoes and many other things in your home that you bought on an impulse, only to never wear, think about selling them. With sites such as eBay and Gumtree, there is someone out there who will pay good money for your unwanted items. Second hand furniture is big business, not everyone wants IKEA furniture in their home and will travel around to collect the perfect items found on the internet. Take advantage and sell your old furniture, not only making you money but saving you the bother of having to get rid of it as your buyer will collect it.
