Berkshire may be landlocked, but there’s nothing to stop you making the trip to one of Britain’s famous coastlines to enjoy a day at the beach. The most easily reachable stretch of coast is in Hampshire, where there’s a fantastic choice of seaside towns, sand and single beaches, and all the entertainment you could hope for.

Southsea Beach

Nestled on a picturesque stretch of coastline in Hampshire, this stony beach lies adjacent to Southsea Common, which is a popular area for kite flying, picnics and ball games. There are two piers – South Parade Pier, which has an amusement arcade, ballroom and a bar area, and Clarence Pier, which also has an amusement arcade. (Distance from park: 43 miles)

Hayling Island

This lovely Award Winning Blue Flag beach is the ideal place to enjoy a day out for the whole family. With its grassy dunes and an array of wild flowers it’s a popular place for keen bird watchers. (Distance from park 64 miles)

Hills Head Beach

Situated near Southampton, Hill Head beach – also known as Salterns Beach – is one of the south coast’s most popular destinations for watersports, with adventure seekers coming in their droves to enjoy activities such as windsurfing and kitesurfing. The beach itself is shingle with groynes. (Distance from park: 52.5 miles)

Calshot Beach

Near the city of Southampton, this delightful shingle beach is backed by marshes and is a haven for keen conservationists and nature lovers. It’s lined with pretty beach huts and there’s also a Naturist beach nearby. (Distance from park: 39.7 miles)


Located on the edge of Southampton, close to Royal Victoria Country Park, is another shingle beach that’s perfect for a leisurely walk or a spot for picnics while watching boats, ships and cruise liners pass in and out of the famous port city. (Distance from park: 47 miles)


You don’t necessarily need to head to the coast for some beach time. Home to the largest inland beach in the UK, the Cotswold Country Park and Beach is a great place to take the family, with plenty of activities to enjoy including boat hire, open water swimming and adventure playgrounds.
